In the eye of the storm, Sasha and Zolf climb onto the capsized boat alongside Hamid, and together the party is able to tip their vessel upright again. They leave the eye of the storm and head out towards the direction France presumably is. The sea becomes rougher than it was earlier, and Sasha suddenly spots something huge, shiny and metallic breaking the water surface. After Sasha points it out, Hamid notices it as well, while Zolf can't make out anything through the storm. There is an enormous roar, as if by a thousand machines dying in pain, and Zolf finally can see what the others were telling him about – and then how the tip of a metallic tentacle slips beneath the waves. The party continues to row in a rythm across the ocean in their dinghy, and after 3 hours the storm calms and they power on more easily. Eventually, Hamid spots the coast, and they pull up on the beach and collapse onto the sand. Hamid sets up the tents as Zolf looks around for some driftwood to make a fire, in the process stumbling onto his trident that he had previously thrown into the ocean.

The driver of the train gives Bertie a cable to place outside the train on the breakers to stop anything in front of the train from being electrocuted. Bertie brings the cable around to the back of the train and throws it outside. The other passengers leave the train, and Bertie suggests all of them should stay at the station, saying he and [[Harrison Cambell|Cambell]] will head off to Calais. As they continue, the water in the tunnel gets deeper, so Cambell turns back. Critically misunderstanding his surroundings, Bertie heads up into a service tunnel and starts to explore, but gets lost despite using a rope and chalks to navigate. Eventually Brutor guides him through the service tunnel back to the main tunnel, wasting two and a half hours on that venture. After another few hours he starts to see tunnels that look as if they see more regular use. They emerge in France, where the crowd mistakes Bertie for a creature from the abyss, and starts a panic.

Summary[]

Hamid, Sasha and Zolf head across the ocean towards Calais, whilst Bertie traverses the Channel Tunnel.

Synopsis[]

The Sea Faring Rangers[]

The Bertie and Brutor Conglomerate[]

The driver of the train gives Bertie a cable to place outside the train on the breakers to stop anything in front of the train from being electrocuted. Bertie brings the cable around to the back of the train and throws it outside. The other passengers leave the train, and Bertie suggests all of them should stay at the station, saying he and Cambell will head off to Calais. They emerge in France, where the crowd mistakes Bertie for a creature from the abyss, and starts to panic.
